Before his death, Mallam Shehu entrusts the care of his daughter, Bintu, to an old friend, and begs her to fulfill his solemn vow that the young girl would marry Faruk Abdu. Through the following years Hauwa struggles to do all her best for her foster-child, and anxiously waits for Faruk's return from Europe, where he is studying. But before he comes home, events take place that totally alter the direction of Bintu's life, and which remorselessly leads her towards tragedy. It is left to Faruk to try to save her from the trap she has fallen into, and to ensure that justice prevails.
